Art and Finance
Welcome! Your first stop will be Piazza Affari, located in the heart of Milan, between the historic Via Mercanti and the charming Via Cordusio.
We will ask you to reach Milan Cathedral via Piazza Affari by following the itinerary in this following link, it is the shortest.
Piazza Affari is an important square for the city of Milan. It is best known for housing the Italian Stock Exchange, a symbol of our country’s economic-financial system. The building, constructed between 1928 and 1932 and designed by architect Paolo Mezzanotte, is an excellent example of Italian rationalist architecture.
In Piazza Affari you will find a very special work of art, Maurizio Cattelan’s “L.O.V.E.,” a temporary installation that has become almost permanent since 2010. The work is a tall sculpture made of white marble, depicting a hand with all fingers cut off, except for the middle finger, erected upward. This work elicits different reactions and can be interpreted as a gesture of defiance toward authority or economic power, but Cattelan has often emphasized that the interpretation of the work is left to the public.
Now, I would like to ask you all to do one thing: gather in front of Cattelan’s work, smile and take a group selfie! Then, send it by whatsapp to +39 3318993716. It is a nice way to share this unique moment and remember our visit to Piazza Affari.
After taking your selfie, I invite you to continue to Piazza Duomo. It is a symbolic place of the city, where you can admire the magnificent Milan Cathedral, one of the greatest examples of Gothic architecture in the world.
